Joao Cabral

Colourfully influenced by an array of rock groups and initially self taught, Joao Cabral is a highly innovative musician. Jazz being his first love he has combined sounds from all over Africa as well as drawing on modern and traditional Jazz.
With a large melting pot of influences, João Cabral is certainly a very accomplished & varied style musician. Listening to River of dreams you would never say that  he used to mimic and listen to Dire Straits, Iron Maiden, Guns n’ Roses, AC/DC and Bon Jovi to name a few. He began playing guitar at the age of 17 in church. Falling in love with jazz after listening to Lee Ritenour and the Pat Metheny Group, Cabral decided to take up jazz lessons in 1995. From there he moved on to playing live in jam sessions. …/2

“I play from a Mozambican point of view, but not traditional Mozambican music. There are elements of funky, jazz, afro, samba, bossa nova and Caribbean but I don't like to say that I play fusion. I'm just a musician that likes a lot of different kinds of music and I feel it's great to have those musical worlds to explore,” says João Cabral Armando.
In 2003 Cabral moved to Cape Town to pursue his passion and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Music (Jazz Performance) in 2007. To experience this phenomenal artist and his brilliant Jazz offering River of dreams go to www.joaocabralarmando.com
